Greetings fellow VA-COM members,
Before I get started, let me tell you God is so great. When VA COM broke up back in 2005, I was having problems with my left knee, I thought it was just arthritis. The doctors discovered I had a torn ligament and a split knee cap along with, shredded Meniscuses, so following surgery, and twelve weeks of Physical Torture, God has carried me through and laid it on my heart to look into restarting COM. I really missed the fellowship of this ministry. I contacted Winford Hayes, the National COM Coordinator, and with his help and lots of prayer we got the ball rolling. We contacted everyone we had an email address, phone number or street address for asking them to reply. We set a Re-Start meeting in May not realizing it was Memorial Day weekend. Including Winford we had 4 units show up. From there, and the Lord’s guidance we now have nearly 30 units that are interested along with some new ones.
God has opened 2 mission fields for us this year. The one on the Eastern side is at Eastover on the 2nd weekend of September and the other in October at Camp Akulana in Millsboro. With the cost of gas these days, it makes it hard to do a lot of traveling. I feel God picked these two places for our Ministry. Both said yes as soon as we mentioned VACOM. No further questions only, when can we come. By having two to choose from it will make it easier to come to one or the other or even both if you choose.
Below you will find the info on the first ministry opportunity that we have set up for this September. The October ministry opportunity at Camp Akulana, Millsboro, VA has been set up from October 1 through 5th. More details will follow. We would love it if you can come for all days, but understand that some of us cannot. Please come for as many days as you can. As a group, we bring a dish and share dinner together on Saturday night and on Sunday morning we have Praise and Worship; then depart for home.
In His Service,
Tom Hankins

“From the Chaplain’s Corner”
Dear COM members,
When we work together as a team in ministry let’s remember that our Christian team should always strive to be “winners”. That is, to always work to bring non believers to the “winning” side which is Christ Jesus. “AS WE GO” working on projects and displaying the COM logo and wearing the COM shirts and telling people about COM, we should always keep in mind that others must not only hear us talk about Jesus but also see Jesus in our workmanship and attitude. We are not just volunteers. We are volunteers with Jesus in our hearts!

VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED to help with the ongoing construction of a multipurpose building at Eastover Retreat Center in Spring Grove, Virginia near Surry. The work might include hanging suspended ceilings, painting, and other finishing type work. Please plan to bring tools and note the information below for details:
DATES: Thursday, September 11th through Sunday, September 14th
(Thursday is arrival day, Friday a work day, Saturday a work day, and Sunday is departure day)
HOOKUPS: There are a limited number of hookups for electricity and water provided by the camp at no charge. A dump station is available on the property.
WORK HOURS: Our plan is for all workers to report to the “prayer circle” at 7:30am each morning. At that time assignments will be given. Work begins by 8am. There will be a coffee break at 10am. Work resumes at 10:30am and continues until noon. Everyone reports back to work by 1pm and work for the day ends at 3pm. There will be no work on Sunday as that is departure day. There will be a continental breakfast on Sunday morning along with a time of devotion and fellowship.
DAILY COFFEE BREAK: Coffee will be provided. Please feel free to bring a treat to share if you wish. This will be a half hour for fellowship every morning.
FOOD: Eastover Retreat Center will provide several meals for COM workers in their cafeteria free of charge on Friday and Saturday. Those meals include the following:
Friday, September 12th – dinner
Saturday, September 13th – breakfast and lunch
Please note that those meals are only available free if you are working as a volunteer on the COM project. For all others the costs of those meals are shown below:
Friday, September 12th – dinner $8.75
Saturday, September 13th – breakfast $6.50 and lunch $8.75
Total for the 3 meals $24.00
MEETING: There will be a meeting to organize our eastern Virginia chapter. The day, time, and place will be announced during one of the prayer circle gatherings.
Please email George and Louise at georgeandlouise@cox.net if you can volunteer for this project. We must receive that email no later than September 5th so plans for parking of the rigs and reserving meals can be handled. We are looking forward to a great response on this first project of the new chapter. It is a wonderful opportunity to not only provide labor in this ministry but also to meet the other COM members.
